Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are pop superstars in their own right. However, with the new musical, Wicked, Grande has made a massive comeback to her acting roots as well. The Broadway musical has already crossed $378 million worldwide, becoming the highest grossing movie of its kind at the domestic box office. Swifties, however, feel that the ‘Lover’ artist could have played Glinda better than Grande. 

A meme suggesting if Taylor Swift did not have Eras Tour, she would have played Glinda instead of Ariana Grande recently surfaced on social media. And soon, Arianators jumped in to take a stand for the ‘Eternal Sunshine’ artist. The 34-year-old is about to close the Eras Tour soon. For over a year and a half the pop star had been putting in long hours on the tour, while also printing billions of dollars along the way. 

This also led to the Taylor Swift holding off any other undertaking. The only project she took on amid the tour was her eleventh studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ which, despite all the streaming records, is not seen as Swift’s best work. Nonetheless, even with the mixed reviews, Swift has left Ariana Grande behind in the awards circuits with her 2024 album.

Could she, however, beat Ariana Grande as Glinda in Wicked as well? Fans do not really think so. 

Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande have never had a spat in public. However, Grande rubbed a lot of Swifties the wrong way by teaming up with Scooter Braun- the record executive Swift had an infamous history with. Many fans also saw it as a shade from Grande. And from that point, many Swifties made it a point to criticize Grande, while hailing their idol superior. But this time Grande had a whole army of defense. "Ariana's glinda can't be replaced," said a fan. 

Many fans also claimed that Taylor Swift lacks the vocal range to be in a musical of such scale. 

For many years, Swifties have been pushing for a Taylor Swift musical. Especially after Swift filed to trademark the phrase "Female Rage: The Musical" earlier this year, the speculations about whether she will be shifting her talents to musical theater next grew even further. Nonetheless, fans have given their verdict that Ariana Grande as Glinda is irreplaceable.
