Kanye West has never shied away from expressing his opinions or entering public feuds within the industry. His unapologetic nature has often led to public feuds within the industry. While everyone knows about West’s clashes with Drake and Taylor Swift, there has also been a quieter feud with Chaka Khan from back in the day. This feud, rooted in an incident from two decades ago, has flown somewhat under the radar. 

Chaka Khan, however, recently made it clear that she is not starting the new year by holding onto any longstanding grudge against Kanye West. As fans bring up the talks about their feud again, let’s turn back the clock and trace back to the origins of this beef.

Rewinding Kanye West and Chaka Khan’s feud 

Kanye West sampled Chaka Khan’s 1984 song ‘Through The Fire’ for his 2004 debut album ‘The College Dropout’. The song featured Khan’s sped-up vocals. However, she claimed that West never sought her permission to use her voice in this manner. While Chaka Khan earned some money from West’s sampling, she was not pleased with how it turned out. On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Khan shared that if she had known West was going to speed up her vocals, she would have said “hell no” to him using the track.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 70-year-old revealed that she has put her grudge against Ye behind her. “Please. I’m not hanging on to any silly grudges”, said Khan, hinting at her intention to move forward. Building on that, Khan also shared that she was not particularly tuned into hip-hop in general. However, Chaka Khan was not the only one who patched things up with Kanye West before the year came to a close. 

West recently made up with an ex-friend, who had a falling out with him after his breakup with Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West’s reconciliation spree ahead of the new year

Kanye West had a very public falling out with Kid Cudi due to the latter’s friendship with comedian Pete Davidson, who happened to be dating Kim Kardashian. The tensions peaked in August 2022 when Kid Cudi shared his views on Kanye West’s breakup with Kim Kardashian in an interview. Kanye West abruptly announced on social media that Cudi would not be part of ‘Donda’. He also hinted at their rift over Cudi’s association with someone Ye did not like. 

This feud lasted for over a year, until the big ‘Vultures’ listening party in Las Vegas. Kanye West and Kid Cudi, to everyone’s surprise, were seen hugging each other at the rave party. This significant shift in dynamics saw Cudi joining Ye on his latest album, ‘Vultures’. With that being said, West will step into 2024 with a lot less drama and way fewer people on his bad side.
