‘Barbie’ Cinematographer Expresses His Wish to Work With Taylor Swift at the 77th BAFTA

The 77th BAFTA Awards concluded with a resounding domination by Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Among the many stars, including Margot Robbie, Robert Downey Jr., and Emma Stone, Taylor Swift also managed to eke out a mention despite her current stop, half a world away in Australia. The Eras Tour singer, who climbed up the ladders of outstanding success ever since the start of her touring in 2023, may soon be on the verge of joining the likes of big-ticket directors.

In candid talks, Barbie’s cinematographer may have found a spark in the singer as he expressed his desire to collaborate with her.

Taylor Swift entered the realm of Hollywood’s big screens with the 2023 October release The Eras Tour, directed by Sam Wrench. However, in terms of expressing her creativity beyond the confines of music, the singer may embark on her first directorial debut, for which she already has cinematographers vying to collaborate. Talking to Film Updates at the 2024 BAFTA Awards, Rodrigo Prieto, cinematographer of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, opened up on his desire to work with her.

“I really admire her,” said Prieto, who has worked with Swift before, as he stressed on “absolutely” be willing to join forces with the singer who stands on the verge of making a feature directorial debut. Announced in December 2022, Searchlight Pictures has already signed Tayor Swift for directing and writing a screenplay for a movie that the former will produce. The news had come close on the heels of the singer releasing a snippet from All Too Well: The Short Film starring Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink.

Additionally, the movie also had the main character directly reference and spell out the lyrics for her ‘Anti-Hero’ song.

The romantic highlight for Taylor Swift came at a time when Travis Kelce left no stone unturned for this Valentine’s Day. Moreover, besides showering her with gifts, the NFL star will also accompany her on the European leg of her Eras Tour, which currently has ascended to its zenith in Australia.
