The 40th MTV VMA is just around the corner and it is safe to say that women are taking center stage this time. Artists like Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Blackpink, and Olivia Rodrigo are leading the pack in nominations. However, Taylor Swift has surpassed all of them with a whopping eleven nominations in different categories. Apart from this, the Colombian singer, Shakira, will be debuting at the event and winning the top honorary music award. Amid the buzz, a throwback video of Swift has been attracting the notice of fans. 

The ‘Red’ creator has a history of ending up in the middle of drama at the VMAs, thanks to Kanye West. And from what it seems, the singer is still not over the infamous encounter. However, at the 2014 Awards, she found herself in a rather hilarious situation that had the audience in stitches. Almost a decade later, fans are reacting to the iconic VMA moment after a page shared it on Instagram. A page called barbietweetz, shared the throwback clip captioning it as “everyone’s reaction was INSANE”. The clip said “Bringing back this ICONIC moment when Taylor decided not to jump at the VMAs”. 

While debuting her award-winning song ‘Shake It Off’ atop a massive “1989” sign, the 33-year-old singer was about to jump over her dancers. And then suddenly the music stopped and Swift said, “I don’t care if it’s the VMAs, I’m not jumping off there”, evoking a side-spitting moment. The ‘Anti-Hero’ artist further poked at the Nicki Minaj incident during ‘Anaconda’ rehearsals and said, “All kinds of people getting bit by snakes, it’s dangerous!” 

However, what got people talking was how she climbed down the sign panting heavily, stood in front of it, and sang the high note perfectly. Fans flooded the comment section, reacting to this iconic moment that made millions crack up.

The throwback clip amazed fans and they commented, “How’d she hold that note after walking down a flight of stairs”. They wondered how the Grammy Award-winning singer pulled the note despite being unwell at the time. Loyal Swifties pointed out the fact that “she had an eating disorder during this time and was incredibly sick”. 

A fan even asked about the snake reference and commented, “Wtf snakes gotta do with this.” To which a user responded by saying, “It has to do with the reputation album and being called a snake by Kim Kardashian”. On the flip side, there were many netizens who felt Swift was “completely out of tune”. However, the Swifties defended their idol and said she was “already exhausted and this note was amazing. I wanna see y’all hit that note too before hating”.
