As Kanye West Returns to Music, Fans Choose Their Favorite Pick from His 2013 Grammy Nominated Album

Kanye West has not just created music, he has created a legacy. Whether a fan or not, everyone admires his skills as a producer, a rapper, and an entertainer. Likely how he became one of the highest Grammy recipients. He changed the way rap music was made and consumed, extending it from ‘gangsta rap’ to music about minimalism and real life. The last album that he released was ‘Donda 2,’ which also became critically acclaimed. But more than decades after his first few albums, they are still on top charts and are remembered for helping him transition into a rapper.

One such album was his 2013 release called ‘Yeezus’. NFR Podcast asked fans about to choose a favorite song from the album on its 10th Anniversary. Def Jam and Rock-A-Fella produced it with a long list of collaborating singers. Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, Justin Vernon, etc. contributed to the vocals while Travis Scott, Daft Punk, Mike Dean, etc. helped with the production. The album has ten songs made with the use of several samples.

The album remains one of his biggest hits, being nominated for the Grammy’s under two categories ‘Best Rap Album of The Year’ and ‘Best Rap Song’. It also won two Platinums and entered the Rolling Stones’ list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, placing at number 269.

Some of Ye’s greatest work is considered to be from his first few albums that he released before 2010. ‘Yeezus’ was his sixth album and fans have declared some tracks to be the clear winners.

‘Blood on Leaves’ being one of the top choices, used by sampling Billie Holiday’s ‘Strange; Fruit’ and TNGHT’s ‘R U Ready’. The latter also co-produced the music and while no video was made, Ye performed it on several occasions, including the Saint Pablo Tour. The track tells the story of broken relationships and stories of the pre-civil rights era.

A close competitor to it ‘Hold My Liquor’ also speaks of his relationship with a former partner, but has a more metallic influence to it. Chief Keef contributed to the vocals, and it was performed at Ye’s Yeezus tour.

Some other picks were ‘On Sight’, ‘Guilt Trip’, ‘New Slaves’, etc. Then there are those who simply cannot choose any one song.

Today, Ye has returned to making music and even dropped two new songs with Fivio Foreign called ‘Concussion; and ‘Everybody Knows’. Meanwhile, his albums remain a top choice for listeners on apps like Spotify.
