Are the New $850,000 Titanium Dentures of Kanye West a Health Risk?
Kanye West may have always been an audacious character, but his latest venture with dental experimentation has taken his antics one step further. Last week, the 46-year-old unveiled a set of titanium teeth referring to himself as Jaws due to his likeness to the James Bond antagonist. While some felt that this ground-breaking move was as iconic as Ye’s penchant for innovation, others were of the opinion that the father of four had gone too far especially if he had chosen to completely remove his teeth for the replacement.
Some medical professionals are now weighing the repercussions of his move, if any.

While having a metallic alternative to one’s teeth does not have a direct impact on the body, there are some side effects to watch out for in the long run. According to Dr MJ Rowland-Warmann who spoke to the Daily Mail, “tooth decay, smelly breath, and gum disease” are likely if West used a grill. Even if he completely removed his teeth, the “structural integrity” of his teeth would have been affected permanently.
Deeming the $850,000 worth decision a “shocking” move, she thought that one should not do such a thing simply because “they can pay for it”. Even “the glue” used to attach these grills to the teeth “could contain harmful chemicals”. So, regardless of whether West got rid of his teeth for the Jaws look or simply implanted a grill, complications could arise in the future.
Still, this is not West’s first rodeo with a dental altercation, so it may just be farewell for him.

Decades before the renowned celebrity dentist, Dr. Thomas Connely set down titanium in West’s mouth, the 24-time Grammy winner had tried out a similar grill studded with diamonds. When Ye made a The Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance in 2010, he shocked the world by revealing that his bottom teeth’s entire row had been replaced by diamond and gold implants. However, he had a strategy for maintaining them, too.
Since the 46-year-old already used “toothpaste” to clean his jewelry, it coincidentally worked out to have jewelry in his mouth. Yet, he still felt encumbered by the teeth when having to go to the dentist often for his accessory’s upkeep. Regardless of that, he found the grills to be “cooler” than normal teeth. Recently, even his daughter with Kim Kardashian, North West, ended up getting a diamond grill too.
