In a candid conversation on The New York Times Popcast, André 3000 finally lifted the lid of the contentious rollout of ‘Life of the Party’ involving Drake from Ye’s ‘Donda.’ According to the rapper, Ye sent the album to André 3000 to ask about his opinion, and whether he would like to contribute. Although he did not initially find his comfort spot, Fonzworth Bentley and Derek Watkins played him the beats of some others, among which was ‘Life of the Party.’
He thought of a verse that would speak to his mother and pass on the message to his mother, having felt the loss of a parent. While the prospect was truly intriguing to André 3000, the host could not resist pointing out how it was later leaked before a release. Although the rapper recalls the ongoing beef between Ye and Drake, he is still unaware of how the latter got his hands on the track and released it on his radio show before Ye could "put it out."
Considering the verse and the track were just as personal to him as it were to Ye, André 3000 revealed his reaction after the Drake leak.

Although he still does not know why Drake did what he did, André 3000 informed that he, himself, and Ye were not exactly in harmony with the rollout planned for the track. So much so that he was unsure if the track would ever get out. However, he assumed Drake might have got a hold of that idea and put it out himself.

André 3000 reported that the 24-times Grammy-winning rapper’s insistence on a profanity-free album was non-negotiable, driven by a promise to his daughter. Although he respected this decision, he also stood by the original, uncensored verse. When the song was leaked, many assumed that André 3000 was oblivious to Ye's “diss part,” but he has now set the record straight, thanking Drake for making the track see the “light of the day.”.
