After weeks of speculation and growing hype, the 2023 MTV VMAs have finally reached their end. In one night, the award ceremony gave Taylor Swift fans another historic night for the artist, as well as a historic moment for the Latin community. Following a few years of Korean groups and stars being the artists of the night, this year’s show saw an iconic 90s singer take the stage to accept MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and add her name to a list of greats.

However, while the show went on, it became a much bigger victory for the Latin women in the industry. With three artists stealing the spotlight with their wins and performances.

While Taylor Swift may have bagged nine awards in one night, artists like Shakira, Karol G, and even Anitta also made history with the awards they won. Last month, MTV announced that Shakira would be awarded the Video Vanguard Award, which added her to a list that featured the likes of Kanye West, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and many more. Last night, viewers who had tuned in got to see the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer dazzle fans with a performance and an acceptance speech following her win.

But that was not the only award that she won. Karol G and Shakira ended up winning Best Collaboration for their song, ‘TQG’. During their thank you speech, the ‘Tusa’ singer said that the three-time Grammy winner was a “legend.” However, there was one more Latin star who stole the stage, Anitta. Following the singer’s win last year, she managed to do it again. For the second time in two years, the artist won Best Latin Video for her song, ‘Funk Rave’ and also surprised fans with a performance with TXT.

Taylor Swift swept the VMAs yet again

Following last year’s VMA award show, Taylor Swift ended up being the biggest winner of the night yet again. With nine awards out of eleven nominations, she bagged six of them, Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects, for one song, ‘Anti-Hero’, and even won Album of the Year for ‘Midnights’.

Apart from that, Taylor Swift also ended up winning the Artist of the Year and Show of the Summer. This brings her total number of VMA wins to twenty-three, which seems to be just another award show, away from Beyoncé’s record of thirty wins. However, the singer did not perform at the ceremony, but she did make a small speech after receiving an award from the members of the former boy band, NSYNC. While she was in awe to see NSYNC reunite, she was also seen vibing to Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie,’ as all others did. Indeed, the night was grand for Swift and the Latina queens this year.
