“ALBUM OF THE YEAR” Shouts Put Kanye West’s ‘Vultures 2’ in Tough Spot as Metro Boomin and Future Take Over Fans

The last year marked the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and saw big-ticket releases from the likes of Travis Scott, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. However, amidst all of it, a spotlight emerged with Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign previewing their ‘Vultures’ and announcing a trilogy of albums in the weeks to follow. Despite the rave reception from the fandom for the first volume and ‘Vultures 2’ in the tow, their glory days now stand threatened by the latest release from Metro Boomin and Future.

The dynamics of the music industry in 2024 had Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign face-off against the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Ariana Grande, to keep ‘Vultures 1’ afloat. However, the second iteration of it going on an officially unreasoned delay and a release window wide open had Metro Boomin and Future drop their latest collaborative album, ‘We Don't Trust You’ on March 22. Furthermore, within hours of launching, the album quickly caught up with listeners, with many deeming it worthy of an ‘Album of the Year’ tag.

On his end, Kanye West stated that he and Ty Dolla $ign had taken to more refinements on ‘Vultures 2’ before its release. As of now, the album has shot past three weeks of its announced drop date of March 8, 2024. In another, although accidental, disclosure he pitched May 3 as the incumbent release for ‘Vultures 2’ when he mistook a Baby Keem fan page for the actual artists.

While that date now appears to be official, contending for the coveted crown of a chart-topper just took a steeper slope up for the ‘Y$' duo.

Kanye West and 'Vultures 2' now have to brave the Metro Boomin and Future wave

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack artist also landed his album to positive critical reception. Featuring the likes of Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, songs like ‘Like That’ and ‘Type Sh*t’ started trending on social media discussions. Additionally, with the announcement of a follow-up LP, ‘We Still Don’t Trust You’ set for an April 12, 2024 launch, the hype generated by this album may potentially fan the flames away from the ‘Y$’ collaborative duo, with fans set on choosing a side.

While some lobbied for 'Vultures' and even its first volume, the tide of the album of the years came in rushing strong.

In a widening gap, the fans for the Metro Boomin and Future side starkly resonated with their votes, creating a schism for the Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign team.

In another scare for the Kanye West fandom, the rapper's plans to move away from streaming altogether may make the charts bleaker for them. Unless, as per his vision, he "could get a million people to buy the album," the path to leaving a mark resounding enough may prove to be a tough task. Yet, with new signs of a creative rethink in the works, the duo may just as well hold their ground against Metro Boomin and Future's releases.
