After Major Revelations, Taylor Swift’s Music Catalog Has Finally Been Removed From TikTok
2024 could be the year that Swifties boycott TikTok. In the last few days, there have been talks of Universal Music Group removing music from artists like Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and more from TikTok. While they had called for a negotiation about artist compensation and better rules to protect their artist from artificial intelligence, it seems to have gone badly. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), it was revealed that the music company has finally taken down all of Taylor Swift’s music from the social app.

While it might have come as a surprise, the sudden change in music rights might result in TikTok losing a lot of its fans. After all, the app has made its money off dances to popular, trending music and without that, how could they truly survive? With the singer’s music being the first to go, the rest of the artists tied up with Universal Music Group might soon end up following.
There have been, however, no revelations about when that could end up happening. The sudden rush of taking down Swift’s tracks came shortly after the social media platform shot back at the music company.
Just hours after Universal Music Group made their plans to withdraw from TikTok’s catalog, the social media app called out the company on its “greed.”
How TikTok fuelled Universal Music Group’s fire
Yesterday, a post on social media revealed that TikTok had issued a statement regarding Universal Music Group’s plans to remove their artist’s music from the social media platform. Instead of parting ways on a good note, the statement claimed that the music company had “put their own greed” above their artists and songwriters. However, the previous statement had seemed as though they were just trying to protect their musicians.

The statement also claimed that the company was not giving the world the actual reason behind its plans to withdraw. Instead, it was stated that they were putting forth a “false narrative.” While it might be a long wait till fans find out how this one ends, it does not seem too good for TikTok so far.
