After Inspiring a Video Game, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s The College Dropout Is Back on This Chart
When Kanye West was just a kid from Chicago, he already knew he wanted to be the biggest name in the rap industry one day. Even Jay-Z recognized his potential when he heard West’s debut album called ‘The College Dropout’ which would go on to revolutionize hip-hop. By taking the now 46-year-old under his wing, the Roc-A-Fella Records owner released ‘The College Dropout’ under his label. While ‘The Blueprint’ singer’s stamp of approval meant a lot, the album’s unconventional themes were enough to blow rap enthusiasts’ minds.
The album’s soulful beats and societal commentary paired with West’s raw vulnerability struck a chord in audiences. Now, decades since its release, the album has not only won numerous awards and inspired a video game but also still tops the charts.

After setting the stage for Ye’s groundbreaking contributions to the music industry, ‘The College Dropout’ has resurfaced yet again. In 2004, the album climbed to the second spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart within weeks. Whereas today, it stands at the second to last spot at 199 on the same chart. This is still a rather impressive feat considering it is still going strong 19 years since its launch.
Last month, The College Dropout also achieved another milestone by almost touching a staggering 2 billion streams. Now its re-entry into the Billboard Hot 200 has given fans another reason to cheer the ‘Donda’ rapper on. After all, his debut record inspired millions once.

On August 18th, a content creator and artist, TheCanvasDon dropped a LEGO-style video game called The College Brickout. The game was built on themes borrowed from ‘The College Dropout’, presented through meticulous designs and a main character that bears an uncanny resemblance to Ye. And the limited edition intriguing PC game is now available for purchase for $29.99.
As the father of four’s upcoming album nears its release, his name was bound to re-enter the spotlight, whether through Billboard charts or video games. Especially since his fans have been craving a glimpse of new music from him for over a year.
