After Finishing off Drake, Kendrick Lamar Inches Closer to The Weeknd With a Final Nail in Coffin to ‘Family Matters’ Singer

It was mid-April when the rap industry was shaken up by one of the most vicious yet gripping lyrical wars between hip-hop's two biggest stars, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. While the war may be a thing of the past now, the decade-long beef seems set to stick around. However, more than mere entertainment, this feud has proven to be a commercial boon, boosting the popularity of all the players involved. And after the results of the 2024 battle were out, Lamar has been riding on a similarly successful outcome.

Lamar is not just breaking records with his diss tracks but also climbing to the top of the charts where The Weeknd sits, leaving Drake trailing behind.

Kendrick Lamar's devastating digs at Drake have boosted his music sales to a great extent. The rapper's track, 'Not Like Us', broke the single-day streaming record for a hip-hop song, which also happened to be Drake's previous record. And now, the Pulitzer winner has surpassed Drake yet again by being the artist with the second most monthly listeners on Spotify with 74,115,665 compared to Drake's 74,086,033. However, Lamar still has someone to beat: The Weeknd, who currently has 105,174,314 monthly listeners.

The Weeknd has maintained this record without even releasing an album in the last two years. Some months ago, his track 'Blinding Lights' became the first song ever to surpass 4 billion streams on Spotify. Nonetheless, it seems The Weeknd strongly supports Lamar and his beef with Drake, especially after attending the celebration where the 'Like That' rapper cemented his win in their rap beef.

This alliance should not be surprising, considering The Weeknd is also known to have a long-standing beef with Drake.

The Weeknd, who was once a dear friend and collaborator of Drake, has been embroiled in a beef with the 37-year-old. It was also rumored that the 'Starboy' rapper had dissed Drake in his track, 'We Still Don't Trust You'. However, his beef with Drake became all the more clear when he was seen at Kendrick Lamar's pop-up concert in LA with Big Hit, the father of Hit-Boy.

Even though The Weeknd chose to keep a low profile, without appearing on stage or making himself noticed, several videos on X have captured the rapper in the crowd amongst others, including LeBron James and SZA. Even heavyweights like Ye, formerly known as Kanye West have taken Lamar's side in the beef, going against the 'One Dance' rapper. With the industry seemingly gunning to surpass Drake, it will be intriguing to see how the Grammy Award winner rebounds from this rough patch.
