Selena Gomez’ Breathtaking Audition for ‘Tick, Tick... Boom!’ With Andrew Garfield Takes Internet by a Storm
Tick, Tick…Boom! instantly struck a chord. The reason was its powerful storytelling and themes, which were just what was needed in a time like this that gets more and more suffocating by the minute. While the Andrew Garfield starrer was naturally a masterpiece, it also did complete justice to the original Jonathan Larson musical. The movie kept most of the songs from the original musical, producing a faithful translation of the Rent creator's work. And it could have been all the more special if Selena Gomez had cracked her audition.
A leaked audio clip has been making the rounds on X. The clip is of Selena Gomez’s alleged audition for the 2021 musical. Apparently, the songstress auditioned for one of the most popular songs of Tick, Tick…Boom!- 'Come To Your Senses'. A Manhattan resident on X shared the clip with a caption saying, “No way she auditioned for Tick Tick Boom…. Why she kinda ate…”. This track was a musical number from Larson’s second act in Superbia.

In the Lin Manuel Miranda adaptation, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexandra Shipp lent their vocals to the track. This was a song that Vanessa Hudgens' Karessa was supposed to perform in the Superbia musical. However, Alexandra Shipp comes into the musical through Larson’s imagination, as he thinks as if Susan is singing to him. While the performance was iconic, to say the least, fans cannot stop thinking about Selena Gomez in it now.
As soon as the clip went viral on X, fans started showering Selena Gomez with praise.
Selena Gomez wins hearts with her Tik, Tik...Boom! audition
Selena Gomez has been on record saying that she is not a fan of musicals, despite being a part of projects like Another Cinderella Story and Wizards of Waverly Place, the latter of which has also gotten a greenlight for a sequel. While promoting her Hotel Transylvania 3: Monster Vacation in Los Angeles, Gomez responded to a query about her singing in acting projects and said, “I don’t like blending two, to be honest”. However, if the audition clip is credible, Gomez must make a return to her musical roots again.
Fans were surprised by the range Gomez possesses as a singer and compared her to Whitney Houston.
