A fan or not, no one can deny that Taylor Swift's album launches have evolved into a cultural phenomenon. Each entry in her discography explores fresh themes, sparks conversations, and introduces new beats and concepts, all while keeping that sense of 'Swiftness' that her fans adore. It has been over a month since Taylor Swift dropped 'The Tortured Poets Department,' but fans are still not done devouring all the Taylor-isms they have come to cherish in the album, much like Andrew Scott.

The Irish actor recently opened up about his reaction to Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, and he could not stop praising the songstress's prowess.

In his latest Variety cover story, Andrew Scott shared his thoughts on Taylor Swift’s 'The Tortured Poets Department'. "I texted her yesterday to say how amazing it is,” Scott said about the “sensational” album. He considered Taylor Swift a friend and could not be prouder of her great work in the album, describing her as a “force of nature”. The Fleabag sensation also revealed his top pick from 'The Tortured Poets Department', which was 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived'.

Not many people know, however, that Scott might just deserve as much credit for the album's title as the men Swift allegedly sings about. In a 2022 Variety Actors on Actors chat between Paul Mescal and Joe Alwyn, who, at the time, was romantically linked to Swift and rumored to be the muse behind a couple of tracks, they talked about being part of a group chat called the Tortured Man Club. And apparently, it was Scott who was the brain behind it.

Right before Joe Alwyn was set to star in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends, Andrew Scott introduced him to Paul Mescal, known for his role in Normal People, another series based on Rooney’s work. Given that both Alwyn and Mescal were diving into roles as tortured characters, and given Scott's experience of playing a tortured soul in Fleabag, the actors naturally thought about the notorious group rumored to have influenced Taylor Swift’s latest album.

It wasn’t about our own characteristics!” said the Sherlock actor. Scott also revealed that the group chat died quickly after a few messages. “I think there were three texts”, said him. Whether the 47-year-old has served as an inspiration for Swift’s album, or even just its title, is unclear. However, what is certain is that he has definitely listened to the album more times than Matty Healy has, enough to pick his favorite track from it.
