And the 2015 performance aptly underlined their star power, with the auditorium exploding as Lisa Kudrow aka Phoebe Buffay and Swift sang ‘Smelly Cat’. The iconic Friends song had also been trending on the web ever since the performance. This comparison was further heightened with a Reddit thread, as fans jumped in to compare ‘Blank Space’ with ‘Smelly Cat’.

The majority of the fans voted for ‘Smelly Cat’, claiming that they had never even heard of ‘Blank Space’. Fans leaned towards Buffay’s song, majorly because Friends has been a constant presence for over two decades, making it nearly impossible to not cross paths with the ditty. While Swift reigns as the true pop diva, Lisa Kudrow brings her own eccentric charm, even if her notes do not always land perfectly. 

Phoebe Buffay certainly emerged victorious in this tug-of-war, but there are plenty of traits and elements in her character that align with those of Taylor Swift. 

Swift and Buffay were cut from the same cloth

Pointing out that Taylor Swift and Phoebe Buffay are both blonde beauties is no mystery. This trait attracted a long list of admirers and exes for them, about whom they have both penned numerous songs. Beyond that, both of these talented ladies boast alter egos, although Swift’s is a more dangerous one. 

Buffay’s alter-ego was Regina Phalange, meanwhile, Swift’s alter-ego was seen in ‘Bad Blood’. Also, their shared love for cats! Although Swift loves Olivia and Meredith, she does not quite measure up to Buffay’s obsession with cats. Buffay literally thought a cat was her mother’s reincarnation! With a laundry list of shared traits, it is only natural that people would draw comparisons between the two.
