André 3000 vs Ye: Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum Pitch Solid Cases in GOAT Debate
Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) has maintained his presence in the hip-hop world for as long as André 3000, both of whom have played pivotal roles in the golden era of rap. As Atlanta natives, they are widely recognized as two of the greatest rappers of all time. In a recent appearance on GOAT Talks, Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum engaged in a segment where Tatum asked Kravitz to name her pick for the GOAT rapper. Without hesitation, Kravitz answered, "Kanye." Tatum, surprised by her choice, had a slight moment of disbelief. Kravitz conceded that Ye was indeed "very good at rapping," but Tatum countered her opinion by nominating André 3000 as his choice for the GOAT rapper.
Tatum explained that while it was a difficult decision for him to challenge Kravitz’s choice, given his own admiration for "vintage Kanye," he remained firm in his support for André 3000 over Kanye. For those familiar with the dynamic between the Atlanta natives, it is clear they have been not only collaborators but also close allies. Thus, ultimately, this debate about the GOAT rapper serves as a nostalgic reminder of the golden days of hip-hop rather than a war cry.
Fans are already familiar with the duo’s collaboration on Ye’s ‘Donda’ album, but recently, the rapper was also cleared of involvement in a lawsuit related to the track featuring André 3000, ‘Life of the Party’.

According to a recent filing with the New York federal court reported by Reuters, Ye has settled to be removed as a defendant in a copyright lawsuit concerning his and André 3000’s track, ‘Life of the Party’, from the 2021 ‘Donda’ album. On Friday, Phase One Network notified the court that they have agreed to dismiss the rapper from their lawsuit, which accused him of using music from Boogie Down Productions without permission on the collaborative track.
In 2022, Phase One sued the ‘Vultures’ rapper, alleging that ‘Life of the Party’ features an “exact reproduction” of horn sections, drumrolls, and a melody from Boogie Down’s 1987 track, ‘South Bronx’. The lawsuit also named British tech company Kano Computing as a defendant for creating a handheld audio device through which the track was released. While Ye has been removed from the legal dispute, the case against Kano remains active.
