Since streaming became a household staple during the pandemic, studios have been working to refresh their film slates to remain competitive. As every studio now seeks to reinvent its catalog, each brand strives to distinguish itself. With Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, the vision was no different as the CEO of AMC Theatres, Aron Adam, recently told Variety, highlighting how it set “all kinds of benchmarks”.
Adam emphasized that the concert film became the highest-grossing movie of its genre ever, earning $261 million globally, having grossed $65 million in presales alone. He also highlighted its exceptional reception with an A+ on CinemaScore and a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Adam explained that as studios now recognize the value of delivering quality content with fewer films compared to the pre-pandemic era, AMC's strategy is to fill calendar gaps by outperforming traditional studios.
Stressing the success of Swift’s concert film, Aron further divulged if their future film slate will consist of content from similar grounds.

Adam Aron, in his conversation with Variety, bluntly stated their intentions to at least unveil “two or three” concert films a year via AMC Theatres after its success with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. He highlighted the company’s recently broadened distribution team while emphasizing their desire to release their own movies. However, he also stressed that the studios of Hollywood are not particularly game with its entry into the distribution chain.
Despite competitive studios feeling dejected about Swift's concert film because of AMC being the only chain with prior knowledge, Aron explained that they "couldn't blow Taylor's secret." He took a jab at other theater chains, noting that they grossed $100 million in ticket sales, far from selling “diddly.” Thus, his strong support for Swift's concert film underscores its significance as a game-changer for studios.
