Zack Snyder’s Candid Revelation: Recalls the Moment He Recognized Henry Cavill as a “true movie star”
As a filmmaker who often delves into the fantasy realm of action and superhero extravaganza, Zack Snyder is a master visionary. Debuted with his 2004 flick Dawn of the Dead, his future works soon found their place in the DCEU. The cinematographer also brought the representation of the much-celebrated Superman by entrusting the cape to Henry Cavill. And to everybody’s wonder, the role did fit him like a charm.
However, like all good things, DCEU also witnessed the departure of both fan favorites, eventually. But having worked their way through some timeless geniuses, Snyder recently shared the moment he recognized Cavill as a star.

Zack Snyder’s run in the DCEU synchronously cooperated with that of Henry Cavill’s. In his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed that Cavill’s recognition as a “true movie star” came to him when he starred in the Immortals. In the conversation, he admitted that Cavill’s stardom was already in prominence before he “laid his eyes on him.”.
Discussing further, he disclosed that the first time he acknowledged him being a “movie star” on his set was when Cavill auditioned for the Man of Steel in 2010. As one of the movies that missed its chance of a Snyder cut, it was greatly lauded for making Cavill synonymous with Superman. The director also expressed that this was the pivotal moment when he grasped Cavill was not merely a movie star, “but a freaking Superman himself.”.
For Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, ascending the cape, brought his ideal vision of Superman to life. However, not everyone in filmography shared his perspective.

Zack Snyder’s ideal “movie star” comment may have cued at Henry Cavill’s Superman debut, but not everyone mirrored his viewpoint. For instance, Matthew Vaughn did not share his vision on the grounds of Superman’s portrayal. The Argylle director conceded in an interview with The Wrap that Cavill’s potential was not fully maximized. Expressing his views on Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Vaughn termed the crossover as a “mistake”.
He further confessed that pushing Superman into the darkness of Batman’s gothic theme was rather unnecessary. Now, it is challenging to pinpoint whether this acknowledgment stems from his inability to produce a Superman movie in light of Snyder’s progress with Man of Steel or if it genuinely arises from a desire to craft a “colorful, fun Superman movie”.
