Before climbing up the ladder as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle reached the pinnacle of her career through her breakout, Netflix drama, Suits. The legal show is basically a soap opera, as the nerds have termed it. And is admittedly in decent locations. That’s exactly why it works. However, it was not as easy as such for the actors who played a part in it. Especially our very own, the Duchess of Sussex, who always had an ongoing battle for women’s rights and empowerment her whole life. 

Last year, the former American actress sat down with Variety to give us an insight into how life in Hollywood really was. Although we all assumed it was fame, glory, and praise, the Duchess revealed it is not exactly the same. Before landing on her signature figure, Markle took up various small screen roles trying to make her space in the industry. We witnessed her as Rachel Zane rocking the paralegal lawyer off her character on the show. But in real life, Rachel Megan Markle had something else to experience offscreen. 

Meghan Markle on discomfort and struggles in life 

Speaking to Variety, Markle described the toxicity in Hollywood that prevailed during her time and still continues to do forever after. However, as a trying actress in her nascent stages, she was left with not many options. “We didn’t have a name for it at that time,” affirmed the Duchess. She then continued to explain how helpless things were. “There were just certain things that were accepted.” Aspiring actresses like her had no options but just to accept each day as it came. 

“If there was any discomfort, you just dealt with it,” continued Meghan Markle. And as a by-product, it forced a lot of women to live with this idea of staying silent. Speaking from experience, she stated how it led to women “not giving voice to the things that might create concern or discomfort.” 

Before landing in the fame bowl before Suits, Markle had to get past a lot of stereotypical mindsets from people at her workspace. 

The Duchess recalled being called a “Bimbo”

Opening up to variety was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to her struggles in her profession. Diving deeper into the same, Markle took to her award-winning Archetypes podcast to let people know more. 

In one of the most-talk-about episodes, Markle shared with Paris Hilton and a bunch of other Hollywood bigwigs how she was treated as a “bimbo” on the sets of the Deal or No Deal reality show. She also shed light on how women were forced to do certain things for the sake of showbiz. However, the claims were shut down by the showrunner just a few days ago.
