“You can’t control…” – Sydney Sweeney Opens Up on Glen Powell Dating Rumors During ‘Anyone But You’ Promotions
At the end of a year that had at least fifteen action movies take Hollywood by the adrenaline in different months, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell in Anyone But You struck across as a breath of fresh air. A romantic comedy that had its actors shoot in shark-infested waters of the Sydney Harbor as well as scenic Australian landscapes also made way for a storyline that revived a largely fading mainstream genre. However, the movie involved extensive promotions, some of which gave an air of misconception.
At some point during the rising curve of the movie’s hype, rumors of the two leads being linked romantically popped up. Now, months later, one of them has offered an expanded truth.

Released on December 22 in the US, Anyone But You followed Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as Bea and Ben, respectively, in a tale of tangled romance. Looking to echo their chemistry on screen, the duo embarked on a widespread promotional campaign both online and offline with interviews and special clips. However, many took it out of context as evidence of a budding romance, to which the actress, in talks with GQ labeled as “It’s just people writing clickbait.”
Promotional clips such as Sweeney and Powell hitting on one another drew a massive craze. Reiterating the same months later again, the Euphoria star referenced her Saturday Night Live monologue that also addressed the same. “You can’t control the media and I think that’s what a lot of my monologue was about,” she stated. Doubling down harshly, she called upon any who made such remarks without “research or truth” while laying bare the fact that her real-life fiancé, Jonathan Davino, accompanied her for the entirety of the shoot.
In the same interview, she also dished out the possibility of a sequel to the heart-tugger, putting forth her conditions.

Following a staggered release pattern, Anyone But You became a swooning hit in many regions and in March 2024 went past $212 million at the box office. Made with a budget of only $25 million, the movie picked up steam following its Blu-ray release, a few days down the line. As a producer, Sydney Sweeney put forth her conditions for a potential sequel to take shape.
Starting from ensuring that the audience gets “what they want,” to the idea being compelling, “new and exciting,” she wants Anyone But You part two to live up to or even beyond the acclaim of the original. Regardless, with the possibility remaining uncertain, fans can catch the actress next in her upcoming project.
