Friends is one of those shows that has seen remarkably unforgettable guest stars through the run of 10 seasons. The sitcom has been blessed with the presence of famous actors like Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Robin Williams, and Julia Roberts. Even UK’s royalty, Sarah Ferguson, Fergie, also made a cameo in the show. One of them was also Fisher Stevens, who appeared as Phoebe’s psychiatrist boyfriend Roger. Not only that, but he also matched Phoebe’s weirdness.

While most of the guest stars loved to be a part of the show, it was not the case with Stevens. And back in 2021, he opened up about his rudeness to the cast and apologized for the same.

Fisher Stevens regretted his harsh behavior towards the Friends cast

Stevens played the role of Roger in Season 1 Episode 13, The One with the B**bies. Talking about this role with the host of the People TV’s Couch Suffering in 2021, he admitted he had never been on any sitcom before Friends. Remembering his interaction with the cast members, Stevens revealed he snapped at them because of the changed script. “I apologize. I was bad, I was wrong,” apologized Stevens to the cast and crew, even calling himself an “a**hole.”

Stevens flew from to LA for the shoot where he got to know the changes in the script. Although he acknowledged it was a very common practice during the interview, he admitted he did not know about it back then. As soon as he learned about the change, he snapped and said, “So I have to relearn lines that you’ve written that are worse than what you’d originally written?” If not back then, but he did apologize for his behavior in 2021.

Stevens also admitted he had not been in constant touch with the cast of the show. However, he told the host, if she asked them about him, the cast would refer to him as the ‘New York snob’. Ever since he committed this mistake of losing control, he wanted the cast of the show to know how deeply and sincerely sorry he was. Why did no one like Roger in the episode?

As a psychiatrist, Roger came into Phoebe’s friends’ lives only to disrupt them. Not only because of what he spoke but also because of the way he spoke, no one liked him. During a normal conversation with Ross, he was able to start a quarrel between him and Monica. What was the most interesting was the way he broke down the group in front of Phoebe. That moment showcased how intense his character was!

Although fans did not like the character, they sure loved Stevens’ stunning effort to make it so hilarious. Amidst the iconic moments from the sitcom, Roger breaking is surely one of them. Well, in the show, Roger did not apologize for his breakdown. But Fisher Stevens sure accepted his unprofessional behavior and asked for forgiveness as well.
