Since 1994, the NBC sitcom that has been gaining more and more love is Friends. The show has been a comfort show for uncountable viewers. Therefore, when, in 2004, the sitcom ended, it broke millions of hearts. Even after 19 years of the show’s ending, fans still follow it religiously. Amidst fans’ love and admiration for the show, writer Patty Lin revealed her strange experience while working on the show.

Several writers worked in the ’90s classic sitcom. One of them was the writer of shows like Breaking Bad, Freaks and Geeks, and Desperate Housewives. Lin joined the team for season 7. Lin threw light on how she was treated by the cast members of the show.

How did the cast of Friends treat Patty Lin?

The American screenplay writer recently wrote a book named End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood. During her conversation with Times for the book’s promotion, she opened up about how working on the famous show was not at all a dream job for her. Lin recalled how she was the only woman of color in the writers’ room. Remembering her days on the show, Lin expressed her doubt about whether they hired her for her abilities or to add more diversity to the program.

When the actors gathered with the producers, writers, and department heads to read the episode scripts, as the writer recalled, the stars were not happy to be chained to the show. Whenever the actors did not like any of the jokes, they would intentionally tank it. Even, as Lin recalled, the actors rarely had anything positive to say about the scripts.

They expressed their opinions loudly to guard their characters. Although sometimes the comments from the actors helped the writers, these sessions lacked overall expected levity. After working closely with on the fan-favorite show for a year, did Patty Lin come back?

When the 7th season ended, the showmakers did not summon Patty Lin for another season. While it made her feel mortified and indignant, Lin was quite relieved as well. As the American artist recalled, she did not want to come back ever again, nor did she learn much while working on the show.

The show even made it to the headlines in 2020 for not having a diverse cast. Along with Lisa Kudrow, the American diva, Jennifer Aniston also defended the sitcom. Despite having flaws, the show still has a huge number of followers around the globe.
