Wrexham Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Show off Their Funny Easter Egg Avatars
Ryan Reynolds sure knows how to pick them when it comes to his Hollywood pals. People love his bromance with John Krasinski, and the playful rivalry with Hugh Jackman is always good for a laugh. But now, it is his friendship with Rob McElhenney that has been stealing the show. They have gone from friends to business partners, co-owning Wrexham, all starting with a casual exchange in their DMs.
Recently, the pair got back into their social media antics by posting some fan-created Easter egg versions of themselves.

On Easter Sunday, Rob McElhenney recently took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an X, formerly Twitter, thread and also mentioned Ryan Reynolds. In this thread, fans compared both him and Reynolds to literal brown Easter eggs. A fan shared two egg images and suggested that these were versions that Midjourney, an artificial intelligence program, thinks McElhenney and Reynolds would look like if they were Easter Eggs. The Deadpool star also shared the screenshot on his Instagram story.
While McElhenney’s eggshell seemed to be crunching, Reynolds’ had cracks in it. McElhenney captioned his story, saying, “Sometimes Twitter can be a fun place” with a laughing emoji. Meanwhile, a fan added to the hilarity by saying, “They are just eggcellent people”. While the Wrexham owners were busy amusing themselves over their Easter egg representations, FIFA 23 players had already discovered an unusual Easter egg hidden in the game, proving that there is more than one way to crack an egg.
As Wrexham made its return in the football video game, fans caught wind of what seemed like a subtle dig aimed at another major football club. This prompted Rob McElhenney to step forward and provide clarification.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's football club is not among the top-tier teams in the UK. Typically, smaller clubs like theirs are not featured in the FIFA game. However, their club made it into FIFA 22 under the “Rest of the World” category- a designation for teams outside the major leagues but with unique appeal, likely due to the association with Reynolds and McElhenney. Wrexham returned in FIFA 23, where fans discovered some banter from Reynolds and McElhenney on the virtual sidelines for Liverpool.
There was some playful banter aimed at Liverpool in one video, where they humorously refer to Liverpool FC as a "minuscule, improvisational version of a football club". In another clip, there was a subtle touch of rivalry towards Stockport County as well. Though it was all clearly light-hearted, McElhenney took to X to clarify that no offense was intended. Given the actors' history of harmless jest on social media, it is likely they were just aiming for laughs in the video game as well.
