Will Smith is one of the most well-known figures in the world. From a range of movies that span sci-fi to romance, the actor has captured the hearts of his audiences. While he might have risen to fame on the show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, his career did not stick to the confines of the usual television series. Instead, Smith made his name in the action and sci-fi genre with various hits like Gemini Man, After Earth, and many more blockbuster hits.

Recently, it was confirmed that the actor was set to star in I Am Legend 2, the sequel to I Am Legend, which was first released sixteen years ago in 2007. But Will Smith fans will have to wait a while for more updates on when the film can be expected. But at least fans have a long list of sci-fi films to keep them company.

There are only a few Will Smith films that can live up to or compete with I Am Legend. Even though the actor has starred in multiple films of the same genre, not all of them have been well received by their audiences. But to ensure that the excitement for the upcoming film is kept alive.

While Will Smith fans may still have a long wait ahead of them for I Am Legend 2, at least they can find solace in four of the actors’ greatest sci-fi films.

1) Independence Day

Back in 1996, the world was given Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day starring Will Smith, who recently had a special wish for Dave Chappelle. The film focuses on the actor and a group who meet in the Nevada desert during an alien invasion on July 4th, Independence Day. It also boasts a star-studded cast, from the likes of Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and even Vivica A. Fox.

While the film ended up winning two Oscars in 1997, Will Smith did not go on to earn his first Oscar nomination until 2001 for his role in Muhammad Ali’s biopic.

2) Men In Black

Will Smith is globally recognized for his role in the hit film franchise, Men In Black. The film was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and was released back in 1997. Once again, the film ended up being a huge hit and also featured Tommy Lee Jones as Smith’s partner in crime. The storyline focuses on the adventures of Agent K and Agent J, who work closely with aliens and investigate extraterrestrial crimes.

The hit sci-fi film went on to be nominated for three Oscar Awards and ended up bagging one in 1998.

3) I, Robot

While Will Smith’s I, Robot made people think about the repercussions of AI, some seemed to miss the point. But nearly two decades after its release, the sci-fi film is still on the watchlist of many fans. Directed by Alex Proyas, an Australian film director, back in 2004, the film focused on the story of Will Smith’s character, Del Spooner.

Being a homicide detective, the actor is faced with the very real issue of robots when he is saved from a car crash, but a child is allowed to drown. The entire film follows the character’s hate for robots and how he plots their end.

4) Hancock

The last one on the list is Hancock, released in 2008 and directed by Peter Berg. While the film did not do exceptionally well at the box office, it did manage to put on the heartstrings of the audience and earn its place among Will Smith’s achievements. The film focuses on the story of a superhero named Handcock, who defends the city of Los Angeles but leaves an enormous wreck in its wake. But the character is forced to face his weakness when he meets a woman he might have known in a different life.

This film, like most Will Smith films, is filled with a long list of stars, starting all the way from Jason Bateman to Michael Mann and Charlize Theron.

Fans might have to wait a while before they get any solid updates on I Am Legend 2, but hopefully, they stick to the alternate ending and give viewers more to the story of Dr. Robert Neville.
