Plucking an individual from the ranks of the ordinary and convincing the masses of their superhero stature is a time-honored tradition of comic book legends. However, justifying David Corenswet’s ascension to Superman’s iconic mantle, following in the footsteps of Henry Cavill, has been a formidable challenge. As Corenswet’s Superman debut looms on the horizon, fans have begun to rally behind James Gunn’s vision, cultivating Krypton-fueled anticipation amidst the trepidation of potential pitfalls. Meanwhile, a veteran Superman documentarian has recently thrown their weight behind DCU’s era of revamp, bolstering confidence ahead of the film’s release.
While it remains to be seen whether Corenswet will live up to the lofty expectations, what prompts the documentarian to champion DCU’s cause?

In a recent conversation on The John Campea Show, the b-roll documentarian of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, Robert Meyer Burnett, approached DCU’s reinvention phase with an optimistic outlook. Burnett illuminated the studio’s “bullish” attitude for projects beyond the forthcoming Superman, including Creature Commandos and the Supergirl project in the making. “Winning cures everything,” he said, shedding light on the doubts surrounding DCU’s David Corenswet.
According to Burnett, those who have faltered with Superman in the superhero universe have not exactly fumbled in a way he thinks is “bad.” Burnett also believes it is impossible to make a mediocre superhero movie in contemporary times when the studio is right between an era of revamp, citing Batgirl's potential. It is not like subpar superhero flicks have not existed in the past—think the DCU dip with Joker: Folie à Deux.
Robert Meyer Burnett, however, looked confident the DCU would not misstep now, especially because “it would be counterproductive for everything that Warner Brothers wants to do.” That said, Superman could really turn things around for the DCU.
Robert Meyer Burnett believes David Corenswet’s Superman will be a DCU game-changer
During his DCU dwellings on The John Campea Show, Robert Meyer Burnett gave every vote of confidence required for James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman, starring David Corenswet. Although Superman’s trailer already convinced the skeptics halfway, Burnett still believes the doubts will remain until the theatrical touchdown. However, once it is done with that, he said, everybody is “going to believe in the DC Universe; the DC Universe will fly.”

Should Superman fly with Corenswet, it would not just be Burnett's but the entire DCU’s dream come true. However, considering the dips the studio has confronted in the past, it is still too early to dub Superman a blockbuster. Yet, with the conviction growing stronger with each passing minute, Superman really needs the Man of Steel attitude to remain intact because winning is the only way out for the Last Son of Kryptonite.
