Will Smith to Return in Another Extraterrestrial Franchise With ‘Men in Black’?

We all have fond memories of watching and hysterically laughing at the shenanigans Agent J and K pulled while they were on a spree to annihilate all the intergalactic scum! The Men in Black franchise has garnered a huge fanbase all across the globe. Apart from the witty writing and hilarious quips, part of the credit for the mammoth success of the franchise goes to the impeccable chemistry shared by the two main leads played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The MIB franchise had three films, with Smith and Jones helming the cast and playing the beloved characters.
It was 2019 when the makers decided to take a different route with MIB: International, which received a lukewarm reaction. The lack of reception was symbolic of the kind of attachment the audiences have towards seeing Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their roles as Agent J and K, respectively. And they might just get it.
Is there a possibility of Will Smith returning as Agent J?

In MIB: International, a complete overhaul was given to the star cast. While Emma Thompson as Agent O and Tim Blaney as Frank the Pug reprised their roles from the original franchise, the rest of everything went for a spin. The response had everyone acquainted with the fact that they did not really appreciate MIB without their Agent J. Talking about admirers, the fans of the original Men in Black franchise might have some good news coming their way.
Following the lackluster reception recorded towards MIB: International, Columbia Pictures is reportedly gearing up for a fifth installment to the OG Men In Black franchise.

As per Giant Freakin Robot, only The Fresh Prince has been in talks for the reprisal of his role as Agent J in this ambitious project. Now that Smith’s probable return has piqued the interest of many, there are also fan speculations that the production giant might as well rope in Tommy Lee Jones to reassemble the old ensemble. Nothing like a good old shot of nostalgia!
Amidst all the speculations, it is clear that Men in Black might not return until 2027. But, it cannot be forgotten that the franchise, in essence, shaped Smith’s career.

Agent J was a role that seemed made in heaven for Smith. Men in Black premiered on the same weekend as his previous blockbuster, Independence Day. Hence, he was acclaimed as the undisputed ‘king of the Fourth of July.’ With his undeniable energy and remarkable talent, Smith captivated audiences with his captivating aura and commanding presence in the movie.

The Men in Black franchise undoubtedly propelled Smith’s career to new heights. Not to mention he has consistently gone the extra mile to captivate audiences and dominate the box office. In fact, he fearlessly put his own life in danger while performing a stunt for Men in Black 3. Smith’s unwavering dedication and preference for performing his own stunts exemplify his status as a true star.
