Will Smith was a part of the NBC television sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996. Although it has been quite a few years since the show concluded, Smith has still managed to maintain a strong bond with almost all his castmates, including Tatyana Ali. Ali, who played Ashley Banks, Will Smith’s cousin on the show, recently opened up about how closely-knit the entire cast was- especially, how much the now 55-year-old cherished them, even after the cameras used to stop rolling.

Ali fondly recalled her last days on the sitcom, when it was about to end, and shared how Smith honored the cast with a generous gift.

Tatyana Ali was nine when The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air started in 1990 and 17 by the time it ended in 1996. Looking back on those final moments, Ali told PEOPLE that during the last season, Will Smith opened up his dressing room and combined two rooms into "one big, beautiful dressing room", which amazed everyone. As a gift for the final season, Smith introduced the cast to his designer and said, “He designed this room. Work with him and design your own dressing room”.

Ali revealed that she still cherishes the furniture from that dressing room and often reminisces about her Fresh Prince days while looking at those two chairs. “It wasn't the stuff, but the feelings," said the The Young and the Restless star. But Ali is not the only one who fondly looks back on those days. Twenty-eight years later, Will Smith has recently paid tribute to his iconic role, with the GenZ version of his character.

The reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, known as Bel-Air, has recently dropped its third season. Will Smith, who has reportedly given his "blessing" to Jabari Banks for this latest installment, took the opportunity to join in on the ‘I Am Just A Kid’ TikTok trend with his own special twist. He portrayed Banks as the 90’s Fresh Prince lead character, the fictionalized version of himself, in the video, for obvious reasons.

Jabari Banks not only plays Will Smith’s iconic character in the reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but also looks up to the Academy Award-winning actor as a true inspiration. The I Am Legend star captioned the video with, “It takes two to make a thing go right”. It is safe to say that even though Smith has moved on from his classic sitcom decades ago, he still keeps a part of his heart tethered to the franchise.
