It has been months since the announcement of an I Am Legend sequel came with Will Smith returning as Robert Neville. This news filled fans with excitement considering over 15 years have passed since Francis Lawrence brought the debut film on screen. However, viewers did not know what the new film would entail because the creators kept the details under wraps. Luckily, for fans, the leading star has finally broken his silence about the project.

Bringing together Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, the best of both worlds, there are more things that the movie plans to do right as revealed at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia by Smith.

Will Smith will approach Michael B Jordan for I Am Legend 2 

During his appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, Will Smith spoke about I Am Legend 2. Screen Daily reported the actor said the scripts had just been completed and he was set to speak with Michael B. Jordan on a call. The Oscar winner also addressed his character’s death in the debut film explaining they would take an alternative ending. “We’re going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” he added.

Smith went on to say that he could not spill more details but can confirm that Jordan will be in it. Directed by Francis Lawrence the action thriller, hit the theaters in 2007. This time the same director will helm the project while Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the screenplay, and will produce the upcoming film. Although this might still raise questions in fans’ minds about how the movie will bring him back after his death, the screenwriter previously shared details of the settings.

Goldsman confirmed the film would begin decades later from the devastating outbreak that turned inhabitants into monsters.

I Am Legend 2 will track back to the source material 

In February 2023, Akiva Goldsman told Deadline that I Am Legend 2 will follow the original Matheson book and the alternative ending depicted in it. “What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end,” he explained. According to him, this would be quite interesting because, through this, they would get the chance to explore new things with Dr. Robert Neville.

In the alternative ending, Smith manages to survive his last encounter with the Darkseekers by returning one of them to their custody. He leaves Manhattan the following day with Anna and Ethan to find people who might have survived like them. The studios have not revealed what character Jorden would play and other cast members’ names, but Smith’s statement from the Red Sea International Film Festival does tell something amazing must be cooking up.
