Just days ago, the BAFTA Awards had taken over the world. While it was a huge night for the Oppenheimer cast, there seemed a few things missing from the ceremony. It was none other than Friends star Matthew Perry. Although fans had expected to see a tribute to the comedian during the In Memoriam segment, that did not end up being the case. Now, a spokesperson from the show has set the record straight on why the late actor was not included.
They told Variety, “Matthew Perry will be remembered in the forthcoming BAFTA Television Awards in May.” While that may be the reason the actor was left out of Sunday night’s feature, it did not sit too well with his fans. After all, another annual awards show had managed to steal the show with their tribute to the forever 54-year-old.
The BAFTAs may have missed out on including Perry in their In Memoriam segment. However, the Primetime Emmys ended up taking their tribute to the fallen star to a whole new level.
How the Emmys paid homage to Matthew Perry
Last month, Friends fans were put through an emotional rollercoaster at the Emmy Awards. During the In Memoriam segment, viewers watched as all the fallen stars of the previous year were displayed on screen. However, it was Charlie Puth and The War and Treaty’s soothing voices that brought everyone to tears in the room. Just before Matthew Perry took over the screen, the singers gave the world a slowed-down version of the Friends theme song that left everyone in tears.

The only thing missing from the moment was unfortunately the Friends cast members. While they had not joined in on the celebration of Perry’s life, they put up their own tributes on social media for their fallen co-star and brother. Shortly after the awards show wrapped up, it was revealed that they were all still processing their loss and were unable to muster to courage to join the celebration.
