At 40 years of age, the British actor remains prominent in fans’ hearts because of his twisted fate. After receiving a snub from DC and an exit from Netflix, his fandom cried in agony for the unceremonious farewells. Yet, the possibility of him leading HBO’s in-development Game of Thrones spin-off brought wide cheers. However, a section of them also voiced their reservations about Henry Cavill and instead opted for Alexander Skarsgård.

A couple of weeks down the line, official hints and confirmations of a show titled Aegon’s Conquest saw fans line up to pitch the ex-Clark Kent as the lead. Yet, to maintain the lore accuracy of the Game of Thrones storyline, several fans disapproved of the idea. Ranging from age, physical accuracy, as well as other character choices, many believed Skarsgård a better fit over Cavill, as evident in a widely discussed Reddit thread as well as elsewhere on social media.

Centered on Aegon the Conqueror, the spin-off will happen some 300 years before the events of the Game of Thrones. Fans believe Alexander Skarsgård may do better justice to Aegon’s Conquest than Henry Cavill

“I think a lot of people have this big superhero-shaped image of Aegon,” a fan pointed out rightly on the Reddit thread as the key distinction in physical appearance between the two actors both in real life and the productions they have starred in. “Is it just because he wore a white wig in The Witcher?” Many also see Henry Cavill as Aegon because of the hair but in reality, the natural locks as well as the figure of Alexander Skarsgård in The Legend of Tarzan make him a better choice.

“How about Alexander Skarsgard as Aegon and Henry as Torrhen Stark?” Fans opted for better casting choices in the interest of the lore and even though some acknowledged that “Henry is a good choice though” several others opined that “I’d be happier with either.” As such, in the meantime, Henry Cavill may have some even bigger franchises to look out for as HBO sorts its casting choices.
