Marvel fans were all too familiar with the dry spell at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s box office until Ryan Reynolds slipped into the Deadpool super-suit alongside Wolverine, aiming to revive the Marvel hype. And guess what? They did not just try—they pulled it off, practically becoming the Marvel Jesus. Despite fans lining up in droves to witness Deadpool & Wolverine's billion-dollar showdown knocking out the competition, it seems all that regeneration action has not won over the true Marvel geeks.

Instead, their bet on the studio’s future is no longer riding on Deadpool & Wolverine—but on the next big thing just around the corner.

The Moonlight Warrior just hit up X to weigh in on the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Deadpool & Wolverine, saying, “It doesn’t matter how well Deadpool and Wolverine did, this movie is going to tell us the actual state of the MCU” complete with the poster symbol of Captain America: Brave New World. Fans are of the idea that the upcoming Phase Five movie will be more dedicatedly rooted to the characters, unlike Deadpool & Wolverine’s colossal juice bomb.

While Deadpool & Wolverine was packed with star power and surprise cameos that threw fans back to the Fox-era Marvel with their iconic tribute, fans are betting Brave New World will shine a light on the current Avengers roster and reel everyone in before Avengers: Doomsday. Even though Kevin Feige was hyping Deadpool & Wolverine as an Avengers-level movie, and it definitely brought Avengers-sized success, fans are telling a different story.

Captain America: Brave New World is gearing up to be Marvel’s most noteworthy Valentine’s Day treat next year, starring a star-studded lineup with Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. It almost dropped this May since it was in production longer than Deadpool & Wolverine, which had to delay filming thanks to the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The film wrapped principal photography in 2023, but last December, the studio brought in screenwriter Matthew Orton to whip up some extra pages before the planned reshoots. While many Marvel geeks are putting Brave New World on a pedestal above Deadpool & Wolverine, some fans see Deadpool as the wild card that might let Captain America play his trump card. But whether these theories hold water will be revealed next Valentine’s Day.
