In April 2022, Pedro Pascal took the famous lie detector test with Vanity Fair. During the test, the interviewer said that some people consider his mustache to be iconic. Then the team showed him a picture of Henry Cavill asking if his mustache was better than the British superstar’s. In his response, the American actor instantly stated, “not even close, dude, not even close,” as he picked Cavill’s photo.
Then the camera zoomed to his face and the Narcos star said he does not even grow a proper mustache like the former Superman. This photo was from the time when Cavill was shooting Mission Impossible: Fallout. His mustache was definitely a stylistic choice, but for the VFX crew of Justice League, it became a massive headache. The shooting of both movies clashed, which left the creators with no options but to resort to desperate measures.
This might come as a surprise to many fans that Warner Bros offered to pay director Christopher McQuarrie for any CGI addition.

During the production of Mission Impossible: Fallout, Henry Cavill was urgently called back to the World of DC for Justice League reshoot. To play the role of Kal-El, he had to be clean-shaved, which was entirely opposite to what Agent Walker looked like. In order to save time for both projects, Warner Bros asked McQuarrie if the 40-year-old could cut down the mustache and resume filming Fallout when he grew it back.
But they had already decided to release the film, so the company agreed to pay them for visual effects. McQuarrie was willing to go through with it because he wanted to help the Justice League in any way possible. However, Paramount declined the offer as it would have affected the physical nature of the character. So the team moved on to the next best thing and gave Superman a fake CGI shave.
