Margot Robbie starrer Barbie’s box-office dominance is no surprise to anyone. The fantasy film born out of the visionary canvas of Greta Gerwig has now passed $1 billion in worldwide collections. The movie was released on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, on July 21. However, it was leaps and bounds ahead of the Cillian Murphy starrer in terms of box office collection. In an exclusive interview with Variety Fair, Bomer confessed that he sent a self-taped audition tape to play one of the many variations of Ken in Greta Gerwig’s fantasy smash Barbie. However, he did not return to the film after that, since he wanted to spend more time with his family. He added how despite his passion for the film he could not spend that much time away from his family. Notably, he was not the only actor in the running for the iconic role of Ken.
The casting coordinators of the film revealed that Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, Schitt’s Creek’s Dan Levy, and Dear Evan Hansen’s Ben Platt all wanted to play Ken, but schedule conflicts stopped the castings from taking place. The filmmakers also revealed that this was a “boring reason” why these actors were not chosen, but in a film of this magnitude, a person’s “availability either works or doesn’t work.”
Despite several performers vying for the role of Ken, the job eventually went to Ryan Gosling. Furthermore, it is safe to conclude that the actor performed an excellent job in the role, which Margot Robbie concurs with.

Everyone is aware of Ryan Gosling’s acting prowess, but one question that everyone had was how the actor took on a part that was so diametrically opposed to his previous roles. Margot Robbie had a few comments to answer this question. In an interview with AP Entertainment in July, the actress recalled seeing Gosling break up a fight on the street many years before. The aforementioned fight went viral on the internet.
Furthermore, the actress stated that the actor was not on set at all, but he got in, stopped the fight, and emerged as a humble hero, saving the day. “I thought he must be a great guy,” she shared her thoughts after watching the video, which she remembered when producing Barbie because she wanted a good man to be Ken. Well, we all saw how well he portrayed the character.
