Though Friends revolved around a group of six characters, the contribution of the guest appearances was indeed iconic. Romance and intimate relationships have played an important role in driving the plot of this series. And one of the memorable characters who left her mark on the show was Mona. American actress and singer Bonnie Somerville embodied Mona on Friends in season 8. She appeared in seven episodes starting with The One After I Do. The character got involved romantically with Ross Geller when Rachel Green was pregnant with his baby. This revelation affected the relationship because David Schwimmer’s character wanted to have an active role in this journey.
Though Mona and Ross tried to work things out, they eventually parted ways when Rachel moved in with him. After both characters ended things, Somerville appeared in several popular shows like NYPD Blue, Kitchen Confidential, Cashmere Mafia, and Code Black. Nine months back, she married creative director Dave McClain, whom she met through Bumble. While she did not have much luck with love on-screen, the actress found her true love in real life.
Talking about her role in the NBC sitcom, she once revealed how Mona’s storyline was never supposed to happen.

In 2019, Bonnie Somerville sat down with Entertainment Weekly to refresh memories of her part in Friends. During the conversation, she revealed she had a much shorter role in the popular show. “My agent said, ‘They’re casting episode 1 and there’s a small role that has maybe a couple of lines’,” the actress told the outlet. Although originally only scheduled for a day’s work, the writers noticed the pairing’s chemistry and cast her for more episodes.
Mona’s depiction in the show might be an instant addition or coincidence. It brought more laughable moments, and this arc somehow helped the couple Ross and Rachel realize they belong together. To put it more simply, every single improvisation in the storyline has made this iconic and contributed to making the show one of the greatest shows in the history of television.
