Only one week remains in the countdown to the release of Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa’s Argylle; a movie that director Matthew Vaughn has promised to be so shocking that audiences will never see what is coming next. While the espionage thriller’s plot sounds quite straightforward, it is a very intricate story exploring a world of fiction inside a world of fiction. In this Russian doll situation, there seems to be not one but two antagonists going up against Cavill’s Agent Argylle. 

Here is a look at who these characters are and the actors who will portray them. 

The obvious villain played by Dua Lipa 

In the Argylle universe, the narrative follows an author Elly Conway, whose novel about Agent Argylle’s adventures becomes a topic of interest for real-life figures. For the super-spy that sprung from her imagination, Argylle, the sole antagonist, appears to be Dua Lipa’s Lagrange. Some glimpses of Lipa’s slightly-deranged character were unveiled in her bushy hairdo which she premiered on Instagram earlier this month.

The sequences from Argylle’s trailer showed her making lethal attempts in trying to get rid of the agent. One scene showcased her shooting at the velvet-clad man. Another showed Cavill’s character barely managing to escape from her clutches with a little help from his fellow agent and buddy, Wyatt (John Cena). However, the real danger to Agent Argylle may just be somebody else.

There is one more character who has been deemed a nemesis to the movie’s central character, Elly Conway.

Bryan Cranston returns to the realm of playing villains

Outside the make-believe world of Bryce Dallas Howard’s Elly Conway, the actual villain is an enigmatic entity who goes by the name Ritter. Argylle’s trailer unveiled Ritter to be the head of a global syndicate named The Division. He is portrayed by the Breaking Bad star, Bryan Cranston, who is the ultimate spymaster. As expected, Ritter is the formidable foe that audiences will love to hate. 

While keeping a keen eye on Elly Conway, this seemingly villainous character relentlessly pursues Elly and her cat, Alfie. He spares no effort in claiming her as his own for a reason that will only be uncovered in the movie. Moreover, there is no way to clear the mystery regarding who the real foe is between Ritter and Lagrange in Argylle. Only watching the movie can solve this puzzle now.
