Who Is Snaro on ‘Friends’? Why Did He Play Russ on the Show?
For most fans of the NBC 90s sitcom, Friends, it is common knowledge that the show once had a Ross Geller doppelgänger in it. Russ appeared briefly in one episode. However, he ended up creeping most of the gang out, except for his love interest, Rachel Green, who was played by Jennifer Aniston, and her best friend’s brother/love of her life, David Schwimmer’s character, Ross.
While most of the world thought it could be the actor in a wig and make-up, the end-credits of that episode called the actor, Snaro. With so many questions left answered about the man behind the mononym, let us untangle the mystery.

In 1996, Friends came out with its 2nd season and had fans floored. From Marcel attacking Ross’ date to Joey moving out, the season was an absolute rollercoaster. However, amidst all the chaos and confusion, the show also managed to trick its fans for a short while. In episode 10, The One with Russ, David Schwimmer played both parts but the actor and the rest of the cast and crew wanted to prank their audience by coming up with Snaro for the end credits scene.
While it might have been an inside joke, Schwimmer ended up being called Snaro for the episode as a tribute to one of his friends. The sitcom ended back in 2004 and left their future fans with a lot of tiny inside jokes to unravel. Although they might not have known just how much of a staple their show would become in any American household, they seemed to have been prepared.
It was the most confusing prank the show has played on its fans, but the Snaro joke was not the only time that the creators of the show had used the credits scene to joke around.

Back in 1999, years after David Schwimmer had been revealed to be Snaro on Friends, the show once again decided to have some fun with its opening credits. While they had chosen to add a character to the list last time, this time they chose to go another way. As a way of celebrating Courteney Cox marrying David Arquette, the credits for the first episode of season 6, The One After Vegas decided to make all the cast members honorary Arquettes too.
The addition of the new last names left not only audiences cracking up, but the whole cast as well. While these small things might only be noticed by Friends superfans, there is no doubt that these inclusions are what have made the cast and its fans feel like family.
