When Sebastian Stan Revealed to Jennifer Aniston the ‘Friends’ Character He Finds Most Relatable on ‘Actors on Actors’ 2022
A big part of the immense popularity of Friends lay in their dynamic characters who possessed at least one relatable quality each. While the universal challenges of independence, living on one’s own, and the journey of adulting remained constant for all the characters, they also had their own traits that struck a chord with a diverse audience. Whether it is a nerd trying to fit in, a high school diva finding her worth beyond beauty, or a compulsive cleaner- there is a character for everyone in the show. This led fans to choose their favorite characters in the gang of six, with whom they resonated the most.
Much like Sebastian Stan, who had his own preferred Friends character. In a year-old interview, the actor revealed to Jennifer Aniston what made him choose his favorite character over the rest of the cast.

Sebastian Stan and Jennifer Aniston both appeared on Variety’s Actors on Actors show where they talked about the 90s. And talking about the 90s is always incomplete without giving a shout-out to Friends, the sitcom that defined the era. In the conversation, Aniston insisted that Stan would have been an excellent addition to Friends and “would have been a Joey”. However, Stan disagreed, stating that he envisions himself more as a Chandler.
Similar to Chandler Bing, played by the late actor Matthew Perry, the Gossip Girl actor is “neurotic” and has a funny bone in him. Stan also said how Friends got him through “a lot of lonely nights”. Being a fan of the sitcom, the reunion had a huge impact on Stan and he asked Aniston if the experience was the same for her. Aniston has talked about her experience with Friends: The Reunion multiple times.
Her response to Stan’s question was the same as on the talk show, Live with Kelly and Mark, eight months back.

The Friends reunion kept everyone hooked for days in anticipation. The show brought together the main cast, cameo actors, along with the iconic show’s creators after 16 years. While it was a surreal experience for fans all over the world, it was not as pleasant for Jennifer Aniston. She explained the reason behind it perfectly during her appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark and Actors on Actors. Aniston called the experience a “sucker punch” in both interviews and asserted that “time travel” does not feel as good as it sounds.
Over the years, a lot has transpired in all of the cast members’ lives, and being thrust back into the same old memories from 16 years ago was “creepy” for her. While it was heartwarming to get back together with the group after so many years, there was also a tinge of melancholy that stemmed from the realization of how much time had passed. There have undoubtedly been many other great and even better shows following Friends, but it is hard to imagine anything topping the nostalgic value and warmth of the show even in the next 16 years.
