When Courteney Cox Revealed How the Editing in ‘Friends’ Made Her “Hate” One Aspect of Her Character
In the world of sitcom brilliance, Friends sensation Courteney Cox emerged as the unsung hero of hilarity and compulsive cleaning through her character of Monica Geller. With her neurotic charm and obsession for order, Monica was the taskmaster who kept the Central Perk gang functional. As discussed on the show and echoed by millions of fans, she was the ‘glue’ that held the gang together. However, the 59-year-old struggled to enjoy her central character’s shenanigans, unlike her huge fanbase.
This struggle was because of something that the show’s makers did to her character in the editing process.

In an interview with Today from last year, Cox confessed that she struggled to watch certain episodes from Friends in which she sounded too shrill. As it turns out, certain sequences in which the culinary maestro obliterated somebody through her signature fiery speech were sped up. Well, the Scream actress felt this made her sound like “Minnie Mouse or Tinkerbell” which makes her “hate” her voice!
Apparently, they changed the speed to add extra commercials to the show. Any Friends fan knows that Monica’s comedic finesse was born from mundane moments that were turned into anecdotes through her unstoppable rants. While audiences cannot get enough of these laugh-out-loud moments, Cox unfortunately has to side-step her signature deliveries.
Besides her disappointment with the episodes that changed her voice, she also has those she cannot stop rewatching.

When Cox was asked to pick her favorite out of the 236 episodes from Friends in 2021, she chose one that focused on a budding love interest in Joey’s. However, it did feature a show-stealing performance from Monica and Ross, too. This was The One With The Routine in which she and David Schwimmer had delivered the most hilarious, yet captivating, dance routine.
During the New Year’s Eve sequence, the brother and sister duo had teamed up to feature as dancers on a television show that they had been obsessed with since childhood. It was undeniably one of the most memorable sequences for not only Cox but also many Friends enthusiasts. Maybe, the fact that it involved less dialogue and more movement made it her favorite!
