With a focus on diversity and the potential for historic wins across various categories, March 10th promises to be an extraordinary occasion. And now, on top of all these surprises, reports suggest that the Oscars will be reintroducing an old tradition- a format not seen in fifteen years. Taking cues from the 1989 American sports fantasy drama film, Field of Dreams, this format has a track record of triggering an emotional rollercoaster.

2009 Oscars saw a change in the way it presented the awards. Instead of the usual routine, five past winners stepped forward to introduce the nominees for each category. The response was electric, with stars like Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep showing their appreciation with applause. Anne Hathaway was so moved that she shed tears of joy. And as the winners embraced each other in congratulatory group hugs, it was clear they were being welcomed into an exclusive club of legends, much like in Field of Dreams.

The 1989 movie portrayed a farmer who erected a baseball field in his cornfield that summons the spirits of baseball legends. This concept for the Oscars presentation was by Laurence Mark and Bill Condon. Following the positive feedback to this approach, fans have been urging the Academy to reintroduce this Field of Dreams-esque format. And finally, as The Hollywood Reporter reported, the Academy has confirmed that on March 10, they will bring back the presentation format. But, who will be presenting them?

With fans already predicting potential Oscar winners for months, it is only fair to include predictions for presenters too. According to Academy tradition, last year’s four acting winners -Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis – could be among the five presenters for their respective categories. Also, they were all part of the first list of confirmed presenters announced by the Academy.

It is possible to infer from that announcement that some other winners from the past could also join them as presenters. This includes names such as best actor winners Nicolas Cage, Matthew McConaughey, and Al Pacino; best actress winner Jessica Lange; best-supporting actor winners Mahershala Ali and Sam Rockwell; and best supporting actress winner Lupita Nyong’o.
