According to an exclusive Deadline report, details are being pieced together about the Kiss of the Spider Woman. But from what has been known, the film follows Valentin and Luis, two cellmates in a military-run 1983 Argentina. Luis is a queer widow dresser who tells Valentin the stories of his favorite actress who starred in many musicals, Ingrid Luna. 

Kiss of the Spider Woman, the Broadway musical, was reportedly preceded by its original source material—the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig—and the 1985 Hector Babenco-directed movie that won William Hurt the Best Actor Oscar. The 2025 film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2025. Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions, and LD Entertainment are reportedly in final talks over the acquisition of the North American distribution rights to the film.

Tony Dovolani is in the movie as Johnny Desiderio, Josefina Scaglione as Marta, Bruno Bichir as The Warden, Lynn Favin as a Villager, and Aline Mayagoitia as Paulina.

Kevin Michael Brennan portrays Shady Mocambo Man, Thomas Canestraro plays Desiderio’s Henchman, Eduardo Ramos portrays Armando, David Turner plays Kendall Nesbitt, and Odain Watson plays a Villager.
