“What do we do with her?”- Director Eric Dawson Was Left Starstruck to Have ‘Barbie’ Fame, Margot Robbie Audition for ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’

Hollywood A-listers who establish themselves as A-listers have a lot of “it” factors, as the famous Dahmer Casting Director calls it. The Primetime Emmy winner, Eric Dawson, has an extensive list of celebrities trying their shots for films that have left a mark in Hollywood. When it comes to horror stories, there are only a handful of enigmas that leave their mark in this murky domain. The latest Hollywood sensation, Margot Robbie, has not exactly been the correct fit for them and definitely not for the 2011 American Horror Story. 

It has been more than a decade since AHS was released. However, director Dawson has still not been able to forget the instance about Robbie.

The 61-year-old Hollywood personality recently sat for an interview with Backstage. The entire conversation extensively detailed the Dahmer team and their wholesome experience in casting Ryan Murphy as Jeffery Dahmer, Dawson, added a little about the Barbie fame of 2023, as well. Going back to 2011, when Dawson came with his initial breakthrough, American Horror Story, he recalled how Margot Robbie, too, was one of the various celebrities whom he auditioned.

Margot has got a lot of ‘it’ factors,” recalled Dawson, opening on what it was like to have such a star in the house. “Margot is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time,” he added, saying how Robbie’s presence was a credit in itself. As a matter of fact, Robbie did not manage to get the role. However, what has forever stuck with Dawson as a casting director was, “This is a star. What do we do with her?
Nonetheless, soon after Robbie was out of the options, Dawson was still as elated as he would have been if Margot Robbie bagged the role.

It’s about doing your homework,” he says, suggesting that is the biggest mistake that actors commit. Whatever the actors are auditioning for, they better know what they are “talking about or it comes out as gobbledygook,” he added. And by preparation, he does not necessarily mean the hardcore acting shots but as simple things as getting pronunciation correct.

How long would it have taken to realize how to say ‘Potomac’?” he asks, stating these are the smaller stones that stars stumble across to fall into the dip. There would be stars who would simply audition for one role since they did not have time to do all of them. And that really gets Eric Dawson off on the wrong foot.
