The past few months have indeed been a challenging time for Hollywood. It has almost been 100 days since the Writers Guild of America went on strike. Shortly after, it coincided with the SAG-AFTRA protest bringing together nearly 65,000 members of the industry. Unsurprisingly, the strikes have had a significant impact on the film industry.

The strike is perhaps one of the most significant in over six decades of the film industry. Owing to the protest, the writers and actors from SAG and WGA cannot participate in the upcoming Emmy Awards. Thus, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards scheduled for September 2023 has been delayed. Amidst the delay, it seems like multiple Netflix shows that bagged nominations have to wait much longer for the results.

This year was a huge year for Netflix. The streamer bagged nearly 103 nominations in the 2023 Emmy Awards. We are no strangers to the fact that the Emmy is the most prestigious accolade in US television. Amongst the many shows that bagged nominations for the year, there were a handful that performed better than everyone else. Fitting the bill was the thriller documentary Dahmer, which bagged 13 nominations, and the fantasy series Wednesday, with 12 nominations. Meanwhile, the popular TV series The Crown was also among the best performers this year with six nominations.

However, owing to the delay, fans might have to wait much longer for the results. Interestingly, both Wednesday and Dahmer made history this year with one of their nominations. Director of the Jeffrey Dahmer documentary Paris Barclay became the first Black director who bagged a nomination in the comedy, drama, and limited series categories. On the other hand, Jenna Ortega became the second youngest actress to bag a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.

Clearly, fans and the shows have to wait for a while before the results come in, but a question certainly arises. Given the ongoing strikes and the delay, how far along has Emmy been pushed?

When will the 2023 Emmy Awards take place?

As per reports by NY Times, the prestigious award ceremony has been rescheduled to January 15 following the delay. Moreover, the organizers will probably wait until the WGA, SAG-AFTRA, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, the negotiations between the parties are currently ongoing. Notably, this is the first in almost two decades that there has been a delay for the Emmy Awards. Previously, the organizers delayed the event back in 2001 following the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
