“We cannot continue…”- ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ Star Matthew Modine Once Shared a Message of Awareness On Climate Change
Matthew Modine has taken over the attention of viewers around the globe for some time now. He is one of those rare gems in show business who can make people love and hate them through their performances, just like how fans of the horror drama detested his character, Martin Brenner for his behavior towards young supernatural kids. With Stranger Things, the actor found a new level of stardom which brought him the chance to work with Christopher Nolan in Oppenheimer.
Before stepping into that role on the screen, the American star addressed the issues that are important to the world.

In July 2022, Matthew Modine sat down with Gizmodo to talk about climate justice, the topic that people have been neglecting for decades. Through this interview, the now 64-year-old star tried to spread awareness about this environmental issue that is becoming grave with every passing day. He stated that humans have not realized their responsibilities when it comes to climate. The reason behind this neglect was the consumer-based economy.
According to him, people were failing to escape it, as it would portray them in a negative light. The California native felt that “we cannot continue to go down this path because with 8 billion people on the planet”. Matthew Modine continued people were consuming the resources on the planet fast, leaving heaps of garbage. The video also showed horrifying images of waste that was mixing with the ocean and polluting the air that humans breathe themselves.
The Wrong Turn star believed that this scenario could change if people start taking responsibility for nature and resources. He has always been vocal about this destruction of nature and long before this interview has shared many tips in the past years that could solve these issues.

Back in 2014, Matthew Modine did a Q&A session with the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. During this interview, the host asked him about how an average man could contribute to the safety of nature. In his response, the Birdy star said that people could start by changing the patterns of their daily lives. Considering it would become inevitable at one point, adjusting the consumption of water and waste disposal could help.
He also suggested that people could start growing vegetables in their gardens, which would change the air and bring freshness. This thing might solve two problems. They would use the food waste in place of fertilizer, ultimately saving it from going to the drain. At the end, he also gave a message for energy saving and to use light only when needed.
