Warner Bros. Cannot Get Over Zack Snyder? Fans of the Renowned Director Pick a Bone With the Studio Amidst Its $145 Million ‘Barbie’ Release
Warner Bros. is putting down its most fashionably pink and financially packed foot forward with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The movie breaks beyond the confines of a screen as it transcends into becoming a cinematic phenomenon. The Gerwig directorial may just become the bridge for the studio’s brightest future. But it seems like Warner Bros. cannot get itself to go beyond the Snyder-verse and its dark frames.
Even before the movie graced the silver screen, barely anyone was unbeknownst to its opulence. After all, it is kind of hard to miss a global shortage of the color pink. But not all the discussions surrounding the movie have been about the fundamental role of the doll in the dawn of development in fashion and the concept of feminism, how Ken is a multifaceted icon and not ‘Just Ken’, and how this Barbie is going to be a pearl harbor for this generation. Some discussions have been about how this Barbie is going to take the bullets for a DCEU Justice League Snyder Cut joke that Warner Bros. “forced” it to incorporate.
The joke in question is not a slapstick one. It simply features a “brainwashed Barbie waking up to say, ‘It felt so weird, I was stuck over-analyzing the Snyder cut of Justice League.”

This joke fits perfectly in the cocoon of meta jokes that Gerwig has created in her Barbie world. However, due to the curtains being drawn on DCEU and also because Barbie is releasing alongside a Christopher Nolan movie, the joke may have just tickled feathers that it was not hoping to.
Oppenheimer‘s Christopher Nolan was a devoted producer of the Snyderverse. As Barbie walks alongside Oppenheimer to cinemas, for the doll to make a joke on Nolan’s Snyderverse puts her in a pickle. But the contradictory views on this pickle come close to breaking the ceiling, as it is not in a jar but in a million-dollar cinematic phenomenon that WB is producing.
Barbie making a DCEU joke leaves fans in a limbo
The news of the DCEU joke had been going around even before the movie was released. Therefore, a few fans who were not even interested in whether Barbie was going to choose Birkenstock sandals or pink heels went to see if the doll dared to demean the subject of their devotion. But if fan reactions are anything to go by, then the DCEU enthusiasts were pleasantly surprised and even impressed by the Justice League joke.
Fans have taken it more as a validation of their impact rather than an insult. However, there are a few who could not decide if Barbie’s joke was a jab at Zack Snyder, DCEU fans, or Warner Bros.
For the studio to force a joke on a foot that it has amputated is temerarious. But because it is none other than the queen herself making it, fans are ready to make some exceptions.

As fans decide whether to hold their knives or stomach after hearing this joke, it becomes clear that this Barbie likes to jump with both her not so flat feet.
