Sydney Sweeney has been a dream pick for MCU fans for years. After suiting up as Spider-Woman in the much disappointing Madame Web, many are rooting for her to redeem herself with a new role in the MCU proper. Especially with the franchise on the verge of introducing a wave of new heroes in live-action — including projects like the X-Men reboot, Spider-Man 4, and the Avengers' next chapters — it seems like the perfect time for the Euphoria star to land an iconic role. However, fans are now shifting their attention to another Euphoria star. 

The latest Euphoria star to land in the MCU rumor mill is Hunter Schafer, and her name has been making the rounds all over social media. According to a report from @MyTimeToShineH, she is being considered for the role of Mystique in the X-Men reboot. While it is still unclear if she is actually in talks for the part, she is not the only one in the running for a mutant role in the MCU’s new X-Men chapter.

Although the casting process for Marvel’s new mutants is still in the early stages, a few Hollywood stars are already looking like strong contenders for various mutant roles. A Stranger Things star is also reportedly being considered for a major MCU part, and fans have absolutely loved the idea. This is in contrast to the mixed reactions surrounding the rumor that Wicked star Cynthia Erivo is being eyed to play Storm in the X-Men reboot. And the new Hunter Schafer casting reports have sparked plenty of mixed reactions from fans too.

While some think the potential casting is perfect, others have their own picks for who they would like to see in the role. 

The flood of fan casting for X-Men reboot was unleashed mostly because fans grew tired of waiting. The studio first teased integrating the X-Men into the MCU all the way back in 2020, but here we are, still waiting for any real news. While it seems like the MCU is finally making some headway on the long-anticipated X-Men reboot, and they have also introduced some of the old cast in Deadpool & Wolverine, official updates have been pretty scarce. Still, the reaction to Hunter Schafer’s rumored casting as Mystique has been mostly positive among fans. 

That said, not everyone is sold on the idea. Many fans threw out other names they felt would be a better fit for the iconic shapeshifter. 

Of course, Hunter Schafer playing Mystique is not official yet, and there is plenty of time left for Marvel to make the final decision. It is still just a rumor — and seemingly one that came out of nowhere. Still, fans seem genuinely thrilled at the thought of seeing Schafer take on this fan-favorite role in the MCU.
