2 Years Before Leaving ‘The Witcher’, Henry Cavill Had the Worst Day Ever because of This One Reason
Henry Cavill may be one of America’s leading men, but that does not mean that he does not experience bad days, too. After building his career by playing Superman, the actor jumped into his next project, which was The Witcher. While the show may have had fans falling in love with his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia, the Man of Steel actor actually ended up facing one of his worst fears when he was on set.
Last year, Cavill announced that he would not be coming back to the hit Netflix series following its third season. But before that depressing announcement, he had surprised fans at the Witcher Con with some rather surprising and bloody revelations.

In reports from Slash Films, back in 2021, Henry Cavill revealed that he had gone through one of the worst days of his life on the set of The Witcher season 1. At WitcherCon, the actor opened up to his fans about the day they shot one of the show’s most memorable scenes. He said that his dog, Kal, had joined him in the trailer. But somehow got free and ran out, which led to an incident that could make a grown man cry, and it did.
After getting out, Kal ended up tripping on “these metal stairs outside”, and hurting himself pretty badly. However, before the actor, who described the curse of being Superman, could help his dog, he was called onto the set for filming. Thankfully for him, he had his assistant, Leah Gyimah, take the injured dog to the vet. But that is when things ended up getting even scarier for Cavill when Gyimah called him to tell him that they would have to remove Kal’s nail. She went on to tell him that the doctor had also warned that “dogs going under, they may not necessarily wake up.“
Thankfully, Kal came out of the surgery and was completely fine. But Henry Cavill could not forget how stressed he was during the filming. They ended up shooting the Selkiemore scene, which saw Geralt make his way back to a bar after a huge battle with a mythical creature.

There is no doubt in the minds of fans that Season 1 of The Witcher was the best season of the series, but when it comes to the Selkiemore scene, Henry Cavill might disagree. The forty-year-old told his fans at WitcherCon, that the day of filming was “a particularly rough moment,” since all he could think about was Kal and his injured paw. He even recalled the fear he felt when he thought he might never see his dog again, but thankfully the procedure went off without a hitch.
Fans of Henry Cavill get to see cute cameos of the dog on his Instagram, and after his little incident, he is still as adorable as ever. And the actor even adopted another dog to keep him company called Baggins. But even with all the cuteness, The Witcher fans cannot help but feel sad about the actor’s absence from the show. After a rather disappointing end to an era, the fourth season is set to release sometime in 2024.
