The road to fame in Hollywood is one precarious trip, as it calls for a meticulous balance of talent and personality to pull oneself up to the top. Commanding a fortune of over $350 million, the Men In Black star Will Smith stands as one of the most bankable stars in the industry and one who has actively played a role in paying it back with donations and charities. However, for Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, things began to spiral downward, following his infamous slap at Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars.

An event of such intensity immediately hampered the actor’s career, but a few of its longer-run side effects have come to the fore only recently.

The 55-year-old actor found himself in troubled waters when several of the most prominent faces in Hollywood defended Chris Rock and lashed out at him for losing his cool. Now, a ProPublica report analyzed by Variety disclosed that The Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation, a charitable organization run by the power couple saw its net income fall by a whopping 83% with a revenue of $365,870 in 2022 against $2,138,660 in 2021.

The resultant crash of its cash flow found itself directly linked to the Oscar incident, which happened on March 27, 2022. High-profile and big-sum contributors such as the CAA had backed out of backing the foundation, marking a huge dent as the same had lent forward $100,000 in 2021. Moreover, the report also noted that after such a drastic fall, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith would close the curtains on their 1996-founded organization and instead donate privately.

Will Smith began his career as a Grammy-winning duo alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff. Famed for his ‘clean rap’, the success and recognition he garnered in the music industry made way for Smith’s full-fledged debut in acting. After the 2022 Oscars left a dent in his persona, the actor has hinted at making his way back to rapping as he captioned “excited for what we’re about to do” to a photo of him and Jaden Smith, Tainy, Lex Borrero, and NEON16.

Furthermore, with him returning alongside Martin Lawrence for Bad Boys 4, I Am Legend 2, and a possible Aladdin live-action sequel, things could well take shape for the better.
