From the television screen of Euphoria to her grand entry as Spider-Woman in Madame Web, Sydney Sweeney has extended her spidey senses to crack high-profile Hollywood projects. As she refines her abilities to align with Marvel’s narrative of the heroic cosmos, her recent interview with Comicbook.com straightened her imploration to broaden the web of her defender portrayals from Marvel Universe, with the tiny stipulation that Zendaya must co-star alongside her in the project.

Sweeney and MCU fans may be curious about the potential roles she could embody, given her Spider-Woman debut. To provide clarity and reduce speculation, here are two reasons she should return as Spider-Woman and two reasons she should explore new roles in the MCU.

Why Sydney Sweeney should return as Madame Web?

With Sydney Sweeney’s speculative return to MCU just a condition away with her lean on Zendaya, the spider-verse of Madame Web could really use her retreat as an act of redemption. Since her heroic debut did not buzz in the way it should have, The Spider Web of Women lagged with only 23% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. The reasons ranged from the lack of a concrete storyline to the absence of chemistry between the spider-women. 

With Zendaya as a co-star, ensuring synchronization between the actors would be seamless, thanks to their existing camaraderie. Zendaya’s seasoned portrayal as Spider-Man’s girlfriend in reel and reality could also add to the chemistry on the screen. Secondly, the way Venom charted its road of relevance for the alternate perspective of the usual superhero gone rogue, the spider-woman’s plotline could follow in its footsteps. However, for exacting the same, relatability should be the utmost priority and uniqueness should not be just a filler. 

As convincing as that might be for Sweeney to take a look back for the reprisal of Spider-Woman, more compelling reasons await for her to shoulder a different MCU role.

Why Sydney Sweeney should opt for different MCU roles?

Despite being a Valentine’s Day release, Madame Web fell short of receiving the love due to its rocky onset. Hence, although it debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a bottom-line rating of 23%, now it has fallen to 13%. After a production budget of $80 million, it did make $97 million worldwide and yet failed to become a fan-favorite, with fans expressing their dissatisfaction with it. While that covers one reason, there is another.

The vigilante universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has several champions. For Sweeney to remain confined in the garb of Spider-Woman should not be the ultimate choice. Instead, she could be recast as the Black Cat rumored to appear in Spider-Man 4. Furthermore, her reprisal as Charlotte Witter could compensate for her role as Julia Cornwall. Since she presents a compelling case for Magik as well, the possibilities are endless.
