While Sydney Sweeney’s attempt at being the future Spider-Woman may not have been received with open arms at the box office, the webs are not yet ready to leave her. The actress is said to have been offered the chance to play a character fans have been dreaming of for quite some time- Black Cat in Spider-Man 4. Following the success of the initial trilogy, the Marvel fandom is on the edge of their seats to learn more about the next installment in the Spider-Man franchise. 

Now, with the potential addition of Sydney Sweeney, it is uncertain which comic book narrative the upcoming movie will chase. But here are the five best storylines to aim for. 

No Black Cat list would be truly complete without Felicia’s first appearance. Never Let The Black Cat Cross Your Path! is Black Cat’s grand entrance into the franchise. She appears as a shadowy figure, slipping into a darkened office like a cat burglar, swiping some files, and then ends up fighting with some thugs. And that is how fans got their first taste of Spider-Man's beloved nemesis, and sometimes, love interest.

This comic is also where The Black Cat and Spider-Man first cross paths. Peter Parker quickly figures out that Black Cat was no run-of-the-mill thief. Felicia’s main goal was to reunite with her father before he passed on. This would be the perfect way to introduce Sydney Sweeney into the franchise, alongside Tom Holland.

Even though it looked like her story had ended in this storyline of Never Let The Black Cat Cross Your Path!, Felicia makes a comeback in no time.

In the six-issue limited series, The Evil That Men Do, Felicia Hardy, also known as the Black Cat, heads to New York to find out what happened to an old friend who vanished mysteriously. At the same time, Spider-Man is on the hunt for the same villain but for different reasons. This miniseries was written by Kevin Smith, who earned major recognition in comics with his acclaimed Daredevil: The Guardian Devil storyline.

In the comic series, Smith takes on some complex and harrowing subject matter. It also reveals the painful histories of two infamous Spider-Man adversaries and many other victims of sexual assaults. Felicia’s story got a lot of attention after the comic was released. And given Sydney Sweeney's knack for playing emotionally complex roles, this plot could actually bring out the best of her in the superhero genre. 

Daredevil was one of the most cherished superhero comics of 2011. In this miniseries, Devil and the Details, fans saw a two-part crossover with Amazing Spider-Man and Daredevil. In this storyline, Black Cat acted as the perfect bridge between Spider-Man and Daredevil. For Peter Parker, she is the attractive woman who represented an escape from his Spider-Man persona, though she is uninterested in him.

Meanwhile, to Daredevil, Black Cat is a gorgeous woman whose presence seems to spell trouble for everyone around her. With rumors about Charlie Cox coming back as Matt Murdock in the MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again, and other speculations for a Ben Affleck feature, it would be exciting to see this lineup of actors alongside Sydney Sweeney and Tom Holland on screen.

Claws introduced an interesting dynamic between Black Cat and Wolverine. The two find themselves imprisoned by someone who claims to be Kraven the Hunter, though Black Cat was skeptical about it. They are told that if they manage to reach a ship across the island, they will be set free. However, they will be chased the entire way. 

Across the comics, Wolverine and Black Cat make a great team. Their quick-witted banter, action-packed sequences, and readiness to get gritty made the series such a fan favorite that it even spawned a sequel. Given Hugh Jackman’s potential to stick around the MCU, there is a chance fans could see Sydney Sweeney and the Logan star, team up, and that would be worth every dime.

The superheroine faces her dark past in a powerful monologue in the comics, having been wrestling with her antihero identity. Black Cat takes the entire responsibility of releasing Norman Osborn from prison to save Aunt May. In this storyline, fans get to see just how layered the character, rumored to be played by Sydney Sweeney, is. 

Black Cat accepts that she can never be the noble hero as Spider-Man. With the weight of her guilt and her troubled relationship with the law, she agrees to risking everything for Peter, whatever the consequences. If Sydney Sweeney were to join the Spider-Man franchise, these five comic book storylines would be key in showing Black Cat’s progression as a superheroine.
