“Time to ruin...”- Zack Snyder Gets Brutally Trolled for Returning to ‘300’ for an ‘Unwanted’ Project
One can either hate Zack Snyder or love him to death- there is no in-between. But nothing cemented his divisive public image quite like the relentless social media push demanding #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. While his movies clearly do not fit everyone's tastes, they never fail to draw the audience's attention either. Recently, the filmmaker has come into the crossfire again as he confirmed his return to the 300 franchise.
It has been over 15 years since Zack Snyder brought 300 to the big screen- an American epic war film based on the 1998 comic series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley under the same name. The movie sparked a storm of polarizing opinions. Nonetheless, Snyder is once again reuniting with Warner Bros. for a 300 prequel show, as he confirmed during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He even likened the upcoming show in question to his recent Netflix anime release, Twilight of the Gods.

300 was a hit- both commercially and critically. However, over the years, fans have called out the historical inaccuracies and caricatures of ethnic minorities that the film is peppered with. It was an unfaithful take on the Battle of Thermopylae and Spartan history in general. Unsurprisingly, the news of Snyder once again stepping into the ring for a 300 prequel series has led to some unease among fans.
Following the confirmation, many fans have taken to X to express their distrust in Zack Snyder, given his track record in filmmaking.
Fans do not want a 300 series, much less being directed by Zack Snyder
Zack Snyder played a big role in the comic book movie boom that swept the box office for years, even creating what is still known as the 'Snyderverse'. Yet, even he himself admits he does not fully understand how or when he became such a polarizing figure, as he mentioned in an interview with The Atlantic last year. With years of mixed reviews, Snyder, nonetheless, is ready to face trolls again, as it is clear that fans do not have much faith in him to lead the charge on the 300 prequel show. A fan wrote, "Time to ruin one of his only good projects".
Meanwhile, his loyal fanbase, who sticks up for him no matter how bad the box office gets or how Rotten Tomatoes rates him, was truly excited about Snyder helming the upcoming 300 series.

Zack Snyder’s last project- the first two installments of Rebel Moon- was unequivocally criticized by fans. But that has not stopped the filmmaker from envisioning a six-season-long franchise on Netflix. Therefore, it does not seem Snyder would be backing down from the 300 prequel either, no matter how much fans kick up a fuss.
